NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Newport News police say a 63-year-old man deliberately crashed his car into a local fire station Thursday afternoon.

It happened around 1:30 p.m. at Fire Station #9 on Old Courthouse Way. The man drove his Toyota Corolla into the glass bay door, according to Holly McPherson with the Newport News Police Department.

No one was hurt, but McPherson said the man was taken to a local hospital for a psychological evaluation.

The glass bay door was substantially damaged, and a fire engine received minor damage. McPherson said it will be out of service temporarily.
