Police: Driver was texting before crash, double fatality

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Suffolk police arrested a Windsor man in connection to a February vehicle crash that killed a mother and daughter.

Suffolk police say Wesley Aaron Johns, 26, was texting while driving when his minivan crashed into a car on Whaleyville Boulevard. An elderly woman and her daughter from North Carolina died in the accident.

Johns was charged with the following: texting while driving, fail to obey highway marking, possession or distribution of drug paraphernalia, driving while intoxicated, possess gun and schedule I-II drug, possession of heroin, two counts of aggravated involuntary manslaughter.

Johns is being held without bond at Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
