Waverly police captain pleads guilty to fraud

Doug Davis, Jr.

WAVERLY, Va. (WAVY) — A guilty plea involving money was entered Monday by a police captain in Waverly.

Douglas Davis pleaded guilty to charges of obtaining money by false pretenses.

This comes after state police accused Davis of putting hours on his time sheet that he didn’t actually work. Davis told WAVY’s Andy Fox in September that he believed he had been set up.

He told WAVY.com, in addition to working in Waverly, Davis also worked in Newsoms and Northampton County, North Carolina.

The sentence for Davis includes 30 days straight in jail, with 60 more served in work release or on weekends.
