STAFFORD, Va. (AP/WAVY) — Authorities say a man has been arrested in the Virginia shooting death of a police officer who provided security to the FBI.
Stafford County sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy said 26-year-old Antoine Gray Johnson of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, was charged with first-degree murder and using a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is charged in connection with the death Monday of 29-year-old Jeremy Brown, an FBI police officer.
Kennedy said in a statement that Brown was leaving his home in uniform around 5 a.m. when a man confronted him and the pair exchanged gunfire. Brown was killed.
The motive is under investigation, but Kennedy said Brown and Johnson knew each other.
Brown’s family told WAVY.com he had been involved in law enforcement since college. He graduated from Gates County High School 12 years ago, before attending Elizabeth City State University.
Johnson was taken to a local jail. It wasn’t known if he had an attorney.
