Girl injured in Va. Beach drive-by shooting

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia Beach police say a girl was shot late Thursday night during what they think was a drive-by shooting.

Police say the incident happened around 11:45 p.m. in the 800 block of Lake Edward Drive near Baker Road. Nearby residents told 10 On Your Side they didn’t see anything, but they heard the gunfire.

“The only thing I heard was some gunshots,” said Raymond Jordan, who has lived on Lake Edward Drive for five years.

Three doors down from where Jordan lives is where a 17-year-old girl was hit by a bullet, according to a woman who lives there. She did not want her identity revealed, but told WAVY.com her son was friend’s with the girl who was hit. She said at least three teenagers were standing outside her home when the shooter (or shooters) opened fire.

At least two homes on the block were hit by bullets, but the woman said she does not know if her home was targeted.

“I was hoping they would catch whoever was doing the shooting because there’s kids out here,” Jordan said.

Police say the teenage victim was taken to a local hospital and is expected to recover.
