NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The Norfolk Tides defeated the Gwinnett Braves 4-3 on Thursday afternoon at Harbor Park, splitting a four-game series with the Atlanta Braves top farm team.
One of the bright spots on the Tides this season, 26-year-old Cuban defector Dariel Alvarez. He hit two home runs during the four-game series with the Braves, and after a productive spring, manager Ron Johnson has high hopes for Alvarez.
“He’s exciting,” Johnson said. “He can do some damage with his bat, he can be a game-changer with his arm strength….if you start grading guys out tool-wise, he’s got a lot of them, so we look for good things from him.”
The Tides begin a weekend series with Charlotte on Friday at Harbor Park.
