VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia Beach Police Chief Jim Cervera discussed the investigation into a video recorded by a driver during a traffic stop back in January, where a teen passenger was pepper sprayed and tased before being arrested.
On Monday morning, Virginia Beach Police Chief Jim Cervera said the officer’s use of the taser violated the department’s excessive force policy. The fallout for the officer can be anything from retraining to dismissal, said Cervera. The officer now has a legal opportunity to respond.
Cervera also said after their investigation it was determined the officer stopped the cell phone recording the video of the traffic stop, but there is no evidence an officer deleted the cell phone video.
