(WAVY) — Severe storm warnings and watches are in effect as scattered thunderstorms move through Hampton Roads and southeast North Carolina Monday evening.
The National Weather Service has issued a a severe thunderstorm warning for Northampton County, N.C., Hertford County, N.C., Southampton County, Va., Isle of Wight County, and Suffolk until 7:15 p.m. A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for the following areas until 10 p.m.
- North Carolina: Bertie, Gate, Hertford, and Northampton
- Northern Neck/Middle Peninsula: Charles City, Gloucester, Isle of Wight, James City, Lancaster, Mathews, Middlesex, New Kent, Southampton, Surry, Sussex, Newport News, and York County
- Southside: Chesapeake, Norfolk, Suffolk, and Virginia Beach
Super Doppler 10 Chief Meteorologist Don Slater says the main threats of these scattered, strong-to-severe storms will be damaging winds and large hail.
Slater said the storms will move offshore after midnight, as a cold front slides into the region. Temperatures will drop into the lower 60s by Tuesday morning.
