Granby Elementary evacuated after smell of gas

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Granby Elementary School in Norfolk was evacuated after a faint smell of gas was detected in the school’s main office, Monday morning.

School officials tell WAVY.com Norfolk Fire & Rescue was contacted immediately and the building was evacuated.

Students were taken across the street to Granby High School while Fire and Virginia Natural Gas crews inspected the building.

The school has been cleared and staff and students returned to building shortly after 11:30 a.m.

Parents were alerted of the evacuation via a recorded phone call.

The school is located at 7101 Newport Avenue in Norfolk.
