Portsmouth Police investigate armed robbery of a 7-11 store

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Detectives with the Major Crimes Unit of the Portsmouth Police Department are investigating an early morning 7-Eleven robbery.

Police communications received a 911 call from the 7-Eleven in the 3200 block of George Washington Highway around 12:51 a.m. Friday.

The preliminary investigation reveals a male suspect entered the store, displayed a handgun and demanded money from the clerk.

The employee complied and the suspect fled on foot.

According to a press release from Detective Misty Holley with Portsmouth Police Department, the suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5’8″ – 6′ tall. He was wearing a maroon hoodie, dark-colored jeans and black sneakers. The lower part of his face was covered with a black and white bandana and he was armed with a black handgun.
