Change-of-command ceremony set by Coast Guard in Yorktown

YORKTOWN, Va. (AP) — A change-of-command ceremony is scheduled in Yorktown at the Coast Guard Force Readiness Command, or FORCECOM.

Rear Adm. Scott Buschman will relinquish command Friday to Rear Adm. David Throop.

Throop comes to Yorktown after serving as the executive assistant to the commandant of the Coast Guard. In that post, he coordinated alignment of strategy, policy, resources and outreach.

Throop is a native of Burton, Michigan, and graduated in 1985 from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut.

FORCECOM prepares Coast Guardsmen to carry out the service’s mission of ensuring safety, security and stewardship of the nation’s waters.

The change of command will be held at the Coast Guard Training Center.
