NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A Norfolk jury convicted a 40-year-old woman with murder late Wednesday, in the case of a man found dead behind a hotel last year.

Along with the second-degree murder conviction, the Norfolk Circuit Court jury recommended a 17-year prison sentence for Rashanda Walker, according to the Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney.

The conviction stems from the death investigation of 25-year-old Alfonso Creekmore. In February 2014, a passerby found his body behind the M-Star Hotel on Shore Drive. Walker turned herself in to police the next day.

While police have not released any information about the circumstances of Creekmore’s death, his family members told 10 On Your Side they thought it might be because Creekmore had recently ended a relationship with Walker.

“He’s 25 and she 40-something years old,” said Eugenia Creekmore, the victim’s mother. “She went looking for him. She already told me, ‘if I couldn’t have him, nobody else could.'”

Walker will be sentenced on July 10, 2015.
