HAMPTON, Va. (AP) — Virginia State Police troopers issued 140 summonses for high occupancy vehicle (HOV) violations during an enforcement initiative in Hampton Roads.

State police say troopers also issued 29 summonses for other traffic-related violations on Tuesday during the morning and afternoon commute periods. The four-hour initiative targeted the HOV corridors of Interstates 64 and 264.

The crackdown was part of an ongoing campaign called Drive 2 Save Lives. State police and other highway patrol agencies are seeking to raise awareness of traffic safety issues and to reduce the number of traffic deaths and injuries.
