NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A vehicle crash downed power poles and wires in Newport News Thursday afternoon.
Minutes after 2 p.m., police and fire units were dispatched to the intersection of 30th Street and West Avenue for a report of a vehicle crash, according to Lou Thurston with the Newport News Police Department.
At the scene, first responders learned a waste management truck owned by a private company had pulled down two utility poles and some low hanging utility wires.
Thurston said the driver had to stay in the truck until Dominion Virginia Power tuned off power to the fallen wires. Turning the power off affected nearby traffic signals, but power has since been restored.
Thurston said there were no injuries.
