Motorcyclist dies after crash on I-64 in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Police say a motorcyclist has died after he tried to avoid a vehicle on the highway and was then struck by another car, Thursday morning.

The accident happened on westbound I-64 at the 276 mm, around 5:52 a.m.

According to Sgt. Anaya with Virginia State Police, 30-year-old Shawn T. Wallace was traveling westbound on I-64 in a 1993 Honda motorcycle when a vehicle approached from the on-ramp. Wallace attempted to avoid the vehicle and laid the motorcycle down, at which point he was ejected, said Anaya. He was then struck by a 2003 Ford Taurus.

Wallace was taken to Norfolk General Hospital, where he later died.

Alcohol was not a factor and charges will not be filed against the other driver.
