VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A Virginia Beach man charged with trying to steal a child has pled not guilty by reason of insanity.

Prosecutors say Bryan Lowe tried to take a 2-month-old baby from the child’s father at gunpoint in Virginia Beach last October.

In court Tuesday, Lowe told a judge doctors diagnosed him with PTSD after being in the military. The judge accepted his plea and Lowe will be sent to Central State Hospital for a mental evaluation.

10 On Your Side caught up with Lowe’s wife after the proceedings. She said she just hopes the Army vet gets the help he needs.

Lowe’s next court date is scheduled for May 18.
