VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Police are warning residents about two women pretending to be local health care workers.

Investigators told WAVY.com an elderly Virginia Beach woman fell victim to the scam. She told police two women claiming to be Sentara Home Health Care workers visited her home on March 15 and some items were stolen.

Police say this is how the scam works: one person distracts the homeowner while the other rummages through the home and takes valuables.

Sentara said it never sends health care workers to residences unannounced. They always call first to set up an appointment and will always wear official Sentara identification badges.

If you have any doubts, don’t open your door and call police.

Police released a composite sketch of one of the suspect and a picture of similar glasses the suspect wore on her head.
