RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Federal authorities have released the name of a man arrested and accused of making a sex video with an 8-year-old girl near Sanford.

Vincent Picard with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said in a statement Friday that 46-year-old William Akers has been arrested and faces child pornography charges. Akers is being held in the Wake County jail. It was not clear if he has an attorney to comment on the charges.

Picard said Akers was picked up in Raleigh early Thursday after the public identified him as an employee of an information technology department employee at a Raleigh company.

Homeland Security Investigations personnel identified Akers as the “John Doe” who appeared in a video sexually assaulting the girl. The video was seized by Harnett County sheriff’s deputies last year.
