BALTIMORE, MD (WAVY) – Marcus Thornton, as per the usual, led the way with 17 points (he also grabbed 3 rebounds and dished out 3 assists), and William & Mary defeated Elon 72-59 in the quarterfinal round of the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament Saturday afternoon.

Omar Prewitt added 16 points for the Tribe (19-11, 12-6), who are one step closer to ending a streak they admitted they’re a little tired of hearing about. William & Mary is one of only five Division I programs never to have played in the NCAA Tournament.

A CAA Tournament championship would end that. The next step is Sunday against Hofstra at 2:30 pm.

Elon (15-18, 6-12) managed to keep within striking distance for most of the first half, thanks to some rebounding work on the offensive glass and Elijah Bryant’s 15 points.

Thornton hit a three-pointer as the halftime buzzer expired, giving Willam and Mary a 10-point halftime lead. Elon never really threatened in the second half.
