NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY-AP) — Trey Freeman scored 21 points, Richard Ross had a double-double and Old Dominion rolled to a 67-50 victory over Marshall on Thursday night.
Old Dominion (23-6, 12-5 Conference USA) has won five straight and is in a three-way tie with Western Kentucky and UAB for second place in the conference, with UTEP just a half game back heading into Thursday night’s game against North Texas. The Monarchs close their regular season against Western Kentucky on Saturday.
Old Dominion led 33-29 at the break, opened the second half on an 11-4 surge to take a 44-33 lead and cruised from there.
Freeman was 10 of 16 from the floor and grabbed eight rebounds. Ross finished with 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting and 10 rebounds. Denzell Taylor pulled in eight boards for the Monarchs, who outrebounded the Thundering Herd 36-28.
Austin Loop scored 13 points to lead Marshall (11-19, 7-10).
