PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – As we head down the home stretch of the college basketball season, the Old Dominion Men’s basketball team hopes to make a run at the NCAA tournament. The man leading the way for the Monarchs is Trey Freeman. Last week, the Junior guard from Virginia Beach scored 27 points in a home win against Conference USA leader Louisiana Tech. Earlier in the week, Freeman scored a team high 18 points against Southern Mississippi. For his efforts, the former Kellam high school star was named Conference USA player of the week.
A Hampton Roads Show Way To Go also goes to last week’s HR Sports Star of the Week, Marcus Thornton, at the College of William & Mary. He needed 14 more points to become the College’s all-time scoring leader, and the senior guard wasted little time setting the new record. Marcus Thornton scored 15 in the first half of his game last Wednesday, passing long time record holder Chet Geermack for top honors, breaking a 65 year old record.
