NORFOLK (WAVY) – Louisiana Tech came in as Conference USA’s top team, but it was Old Dominion that controlled the contest from start to finish. With a fearless energy and an early barrage of three-pointers, the Monarchs (20-6, 9-5) rolled past the Bulldogs (21-7, 12-3) by a 72-53 final, and keeping their slim chances of an NCAA tournament at-large bid alive.
Junior guard Trey Freeman, a product of Kellam High School in Virginia Beach, led all scorers with a season-high 27 points and seven rebounds.
Conference USA’s fourth-leading scorer, Alex Hamilton (16.2 points per game), was held to just 10. Aaron Bacote poured in 10 points for the Monarchs, who will head to Rice on Thursday.
