Brunswick County hit-and-run kills one person

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) – A man is dead after being involved in a hit-and-run crash Friday night.

Virginia State Police confirm they were notified of a two-vehicle hit-and-run crash around 10:40 p.m. on State route 611 west of State Route 623.

A 2012 Honda Civic was traveling eastbound on Route 611 when a 1991 Honda Accord, traveling westbound on Route 611, lost control and veered into the path of the Civic.

State Police said the impact caused both vehicles to run off the road and into a ditch.

The driver of the Civic, Archie Lee Ruffin of Lawrenceville, Virginia, died at the scene.

Police said that Ruffin was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash and that alcohol was not a factor.

The driver of the Accord fled the scene of the accident.

Virginia State Police reconstruction team responded to the scene along with the Bureau of Criminal Investigations Evidence technicians.
