Broken pipe forces some residents from senior living community

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – A broken water pipe forced several residents of a senior living community to find somewhere else to stay Saturday afternoon.

Around 11:05 a.m. firefighters were called to the 900 block of County Street after a large water pipe broke on the fourth floor of Victory Square Senior Living Apartments.

According to Chief Hoffler with the Portsmouth Fire Department, several apartments below the pipe that broke were saturated and around 40 people were affected.

The building did not have to be evacuated and most of the people who were displaced were staying with family, according to Victory Square staff.
