NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — On Tuesday, 21 local soldiers returned to Hampton Roads from Kuwait.

A welcome home ceremony for the group was held around 8 p.m. at McClellan Gym on Fort Eustis.

The Army said the soldiers supported Operation Enduring Freedom during deployment. They served as 24-hour command and control and acted as a liaison between Army watercraft and Kuwait Naval Forces, according to Master Sergeant April Wickes with Fort Eustis Public Affairs.

The returning soldiers are from the 492nd Harbor Master Operations Detachment, 10th Transportation Battalion, 7th Transportation Brigade (Expeditionary).
