Driver pinned under 18-wheeler along Sleepy Hole Road in Suffolk

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A driver who ended up trapped underneath a tractor-trailer in Suffolk Monday morning only suffered minor cuts and scratches, say police.

Suffolk Police and Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to Sleepy Hole Road and Kings Highway, around 6:10 a.m., after a small van drove under an 18-wheeler that was backing into a driveway, according to police.

The 79-year-old driver of the van became trapped underneath the truck and crews had to use heavy duty equipment to remove the man. According to police, the driver refused medical treatment and only suffered minor cuts and scratches. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.

The roadway was briefly closed and reopened at 7:25 a.m.

The accident remains under investigation.
