POQUOSON, Va. (AP) — The city of Poquoson plans to replace 92 trees city of Poquoson along its central business corridor.

Removal of the Bradford pear trees will begin this month. City manager James R. “Randy” Wheeler tells The Daily Press that the trees will be replaced with crepe myrtles. A few additional treeswill be planted.

Wheeler says the Bradford pears have grown too big to be street trees. He says they are growing into power lines and their brittle branches break off during storms.

The trees have stood along the intersection of Wythe Creek Road and Victory Boulevard for about 30 years.
