VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – A boy under 15 years old has died after he was hit by a car on Holland Road Saturday afternoon.

Police say around 1:50 p.m. a boy crossed in front of a car near the intersection of Holland and Chestnut Oak Way and was pinned by the vehicle. Fire and EMS crews extricated the boy and transported him to area hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died. Officers have not said whether the driver is facing any charges.

Witnesses tell 10 On Your Side Jasson Wheeler was the boy hit. Witnesses said Wheeler and two others were trying to cross the street. His family, who has been in the neighborhood for about a decade, declined to comment.

People who live in the area say wrecks of all kinds are common.

“It’s horrible but its almost expected now. we lived here for 4 years and Holland road is very, very dangerous,” said neighbor Dallas Parker.

Investigators shut down the 2800 block of Holland Road so the Department’s Fatal Crash Team could investigate. Police were asking motorists to avoid the area. The road has been opened now.
