Fire destroys Chesapeake mobile home

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – A fire in the Deep Creek section of Chesapeake leveled a mobile home early Saturday morning.

Firefighters responded to the 2500 block of Gilmerton Road just after 1:30 a.m. and found the home engulfed in flames when they arrived.

Crews brought the blaze under control in about 30 minutes.

According to a press release from the Chesapeake Fire Department, one man suffered minor burn injuries to his hands as he attempted to extinguish the flames. Three cats were killed.

The people who live in the mobile home made arrangements to stay somewhere else, according to the release.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
