NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — 10 On Your Side has learned that the same K-9 that attacked a Norfolk State University Student also injured an officer during the same incident.
The officer was one of several who responded to a 911 call made by someone who told police there was a large fight happening in the street near Bayne Avenue, early Sunday morning. It’s the same area where a house party was being held.
Witnesses tell 10 On Your Side Norfolk State University student London Colvin and a group of others were leaving the house party when two individuals were punched without her knowledge. They said police tried asking Colvin questions about what happened, but she refused to answer and started to walk away. Somehow, they said, she ended up on the ground and was attacked by a police K-9.
Colvin was charged with misdemeanor resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
According to what Public Information Officer Sam Shenouda told 10 On Your Side’s Brandi Cummings, the officer is not the K-9 handler. The officer received minor injuries, however Shenouda says he doesn’t know if the officer has returned to work.
