Fort Eustis to begin ‘active shooter’ exercises

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) — Neighbors of Fort Eustis could hear some simulated rounds on the Army base over the next few days.

Starting Tuesday, the Army’s Doctrine Command at the Newport News base will conduct active shooter scenarios at several of its offices. The simulated rounds are being fired during the exercise.

Fort Eustis officials stress that the exercise is not in response to a threat, but is intended to ensure the security of soldiers, civilians and contractors working throughout the command.

The exercise scenarios will continue through Thursday.
