Norfolk to help residents find unclaimed state cash

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Norfolk’s city treasurer wants to help you figure out if you have any unclaimed cash lying around in state coffers — and he’ll help you for free.

City Treasurer Anthony Burfoot is holding an event where residents can get help researching and claiming any unclaimed money that may be due to them. Examples of unclaimed cash include: stocks, bonds, dividends, utility deposits, insurance proceeds, tangible property, closed bank accounts, uncashed checks and refunds.

A representative from the Virginia State Treasury’s Division of Unclaimed Property will be at the event to provide more information on how to file a claim.

If you want to attend, just show up at the City Hall lobby (810 Union Street) next Friday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
