Driver airlifted to hospital after Pungo crash

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A driver was airlifted to a local hospital Friday night, after a single-vehicle crash in Virginia Beach.

Virginia Beach police dispatchers got a report at 6:07 p.m. about the crash in the 2800 block of Pungo Ferry Road, according to VBPD spokeswoman Kathrin Lobaugh.

Police believe a Chevrolet truck was traveling west when it left the road and struck a tree. The driver was pinned inside the cab of the vehicle, so fire department crews extracted him.

The man, believed to be in his 20s, was airlifted to a local hospital. Lobaugh said the extent of his injuries is not known, at this time.

Lobaugh said Pungo Ferry Road is closed to all through traffic, in that area.
