Joe Fisher discovered his passion for storytelling as an eight-year-old boy who never stopped talking or asking questions. A native of Philadelphia, Joe is excited to be living back on the east coast and proud to be a part of the WAVY-TV 10 and FOX 43 family.
Joe traded the farm for the beach when he joined the WAVY-TV news team as a reporter/multimedia journalist in December 2014.
Prior to arriving in Hampton Roads, Joe worked at KSWO-TV, the ABC affiliate in Lawton, Okla./Wichita Falls, TX. While in southwest Oklahoma, Joe learned the ropes of television news as a reporter, anchor and producer.
Joe has produced dozens of news stories that have had solid impact, including a weeklong investigation into a local police department that ultimately forced the police chief and city manager to make an official apology and change the department’s communications policies. Joe was also the first to report on a U.S. Postal Service investigation into the alleged theft of military veterans medications by postal workers.
Joe hopes his stories lead to understanding and change. To him, that’s what journalism is all about.
Joe graduated from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, where he double majored in mass communications and political science. Throughout college, he was an anchor/reporter for BUTV, managing editor of The Voice, Bloomsburg’s award-winning student newspaper, and contributed to BUnow, the university’s online news website.
Joe interned at KNBC, the network’s flagship station in Los Angeles in the summer of 2012 and also reported for the Press Enterprise, a daily newspaper, during his senior year of college.
Born and raised in one of the country’s largest media markets, Joe’s love for news and journalism began at a very young age. He will never forget his days announcing baseball and softball games for the local Little League or the family newspaper he started in middle school.
Now, Joe is thrilled to bring his spirit, energy and insatiable curiosity to Hampton Roads! In his spare time he enjoys reading, running and is a Philadelphia sports fan to the core.
Joe is a member of the Society of Professional Journalists and Investigative Reporters and Editors.
He is always looking for great stories to share with others! If you have a story idea or would like to just say “Hi!”, you can reach Joe by email at firstname.lastname@example.org, by phone at (757) 755-5385, or connect with him online!
