HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Hampton police are investigating the violent home invasion and robbery of a woman and four children.

It happened last Friday, Jan. 2, around 9 a.m. Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 800 block of Burton Street for a report of a robbery.

A woman who was at the home during the incident talked to WAVY.com, but did not want to be identified. She said two men with guns forced their way inside through window in the back of the house. Then they went upstairs and kicked int he bedroom door.

“Once inside, [they] assaulted one of the victims and removed an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency, as well as ID cards as well as ID documents,” said Cpl. Mary Shackelford with the Hampton Police Division.

According to the victim, she was forced at gunpoint into the bathroom with her son, daughter, niece, and nephew, ages seven to 15. The woman said one man punched her in the face and kicked her in the stomach. She said a suspect threatened to kill her if she called police.

“It’s got to be terrifying for them, absolutely, 9:15, you just finished enjoying the new year, I’m sure, so it’s got to be terrifying for them, and while she was assaulted, there were no serious injuries,” Shackelford said.

The victim said the men took two safes from the home and then got away in a car that was outside after the family had been in the bathroom approximately 15 minutes. Now police are looking for any information that could lead to the suspects.

“We owe her that due diligence and we owe those juveniles that due diligence to find those suspects and bring them that prosecution they so desperately deserve,” Shackelford said.

The victim said one of the suspects spoke Mandarin Chinese. Police have not provided any information about the suspects.
