Flu cases put a crimp on visitors at U.Va. Medical Center

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — The flu is limiting visits at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

Patients at the Medical Center and the Children’s Hospital are only allowed to receive two visitors at a time. In addition, the visitors must be immediate family members or designated caretakers.

Children under 12 are not allowed to visit, except under “extenuating circumstances.”

According to media reports, U.Va. had about 78 confirmed cases of the flu between Dec. 29 and Jan. 2. That brings this year’s flu season total at U.Va. to 181.

While Martha Jefferson Hospital has not restricted visitation, a spokeswoman said visitors are encouraged to wear masks.
