WakeMed restricts visitation due to severity of flu season

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — WakeMed Health & Hospitals is instituting restricted visitation guidelines to protect patients, visitors and employees from a severe flu season.

A statement from the system said restrictions will take effect beginning Friday.

Under the guidelines, no visitors under the age of 12 will be permitted. Any limited exceptions to the restrictions may be considered on a case-by-case basis, after the risk to the patient has been fully evaluated and discussed with the patient and their family or significant other.

The system is limiting patients to two adult visitors at a time, and the staff will direct any ill family members or visitors to return home.

WakeMed is also encouraging family members and friends who are unable to visit patients due to age or illness to use alternative means of communication.
