Robert Pirzad wrecked his 2008 Nissan 350Z when he was traveling on the off-ramp from westbound on the interstate to southbound on Lynnhaven Parkway, according to authorities. Officers said the Nissan exited the off ramp around 1 a.m. and began to slide toward the overpass hitting the jersey wall and continuing into the concrete support of the overpass.

The crash closed Lynnhaven Parkway in both directions and due to the severity of the crash, members of the fatal accident crash team were called. Pirzad and a passenger were taken to a local hospital. The passenger is listed in critical condition.

Pirzad is charged with DWI second offense, maiming as a result of driving and DWI refusal of test. He pleaded guilty to the charges and is being held in the Virginia Beach Correctional Center without bond.

The exit ramps and Lynnhaven Parkway re-opened to traffic just before 5:30 a.m.
