Mom, newborn die after Gaston County wreck

GASTONIA, N.C. (AP) — A pregnant Cleveland County woman and her newborn son have died after a wreck in Gaston County.

Multiple media outlets reported that 24-year-old Rebecca Hodge Williams of Kings Mountain died after the wreck Tuesday morning.

Her baby son was delivered through a cesarean at a hospital in Gastonia. Riley Andrew Williams was flown to a Charlotte hospital where he died Tuesday night.

The Highway Patrol says Williams ran off the road, over-corrected and crossed the center line where her car was hit by an oncoming vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle was not seriously hurt.

Two troopers, a nurse and a volunteer firefighter has performed CPR on Rebecca Williams to keep her alive long enough to deliver the baby.
