Va. Beach offering ‘Do Not Tow’ program on NYE

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia Beach is helping residents ring in the New Year in a safe manner by allowing drivers to leave their vehicles parked in city lots overnight without getting towed.

Officials say those who have had too much to drink after the celebrations can park with the city’s “Do Not Tow” program free of charge.

Here’s how it works:

  • If you find you’ve had too much to drink and you are parked in one of the Municipal Parking Lots located at 2nd, 4th, 19th, 25th Streets or Rudee Loop, advise the lot attendant that you would like to leave your vehicle in the lot overnight. If a lot attendant is not available, contact a police officer or call (757) 385-5600.
  • An officer will then be dispatched to the location, where the vehicle will be documented and a “Do Not Tow” sticker will be affixed to the windshield.
  • Then have a friend or cab drive you home. You have between 8 a.m. and noon the next morning to pick up your vehicle.

This is a free service, but officials say drivers MUST obtain their pass/sticker before 2:30 a.m. in order to prevent from being towed. Municipal Parking Lots close at 12:30 a.m. to new entries.
