Teen charged in Newport News Family Dollar robbery

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Police have arrested and charged a 17-year-old teenager after they say he robbed a Family Dollar store in Newport News.

Newport News police said an officer, who was on patrol in the 6000 block of Jefferson Avenue, noticed the teenager putting a mask on outside of the Family Dollar, Tuesday shortly after 8:30 p.m.

Police say the teen then entered the store and displayed a firearm before leaving with an undisclosed amount of money. However, he was arrested as he exited the building.

He has been charged with robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and wearing a mask in public.
