RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Gov. Terry McAuliffe is ordering the Virginia flag be flown and half-staff over the state Capitol next week in honor of former U.S. Rep. Herbert E. Harris II.
According to the Demaine Funeral Home in Alexandria, the 88-year-old died on Dec. 24.
Congressman Robert C. “Bobby” Scott issued the following statement:
I was saddened to learn of the passing of former Congressman Herb Harris last week. Virginia has lost a dedicated public servant who helped transform Northern Virginia into one of the most important economic regions of our Commonwealth. His tenacious advocacy for civil rights, the poor, public transportation, our military, and our federal employees set a standard in our congressional delegation. My thoughts and prayers are with Congressman Harris’ family during this time of bereavement.
