RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Authorities say robbers are targeting owners of Asian restaurants across eastern North Carolina.
The state Department of Public Safety says similar robberies have occurred 35 times over the past year in 14 counties, most recently in Wake Forest. Authorities are seeking tips.
The agency says the crimes involve three to five armed men surprising owners when they arrive home from work late in the evening. The robbers attack the victims from behind, primarily stealing cash.
State Bureau of Investigation special agent Walter Brown tells The News & Observer surveillance is involved, as the robbers seem to know their targets’ schedule.
On Dec. 23, three men wearing masks attacked a woman at gunpoint as she got home from Lin’s Garden about 11 p.m. The woman was not seriously injured.
