SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Fire cause major damage to a home in Suffolk early Saturday morning.

Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to the fire just after 3:00 a.m. on the 300 block of Spruce Street, near the intersection of East Washington and County streets.

The two people inside the home got out safely before first responders arrived, according to city spokesman Tim Kelley.

Firefighters found flames coming out of the outside of the back on the home up to the second floor, and got the fire under control in about 20 minutes, without any injuries to the crew.

The home sustained major damage on the outside, as well as heavy smoke damage inside. The fire also damaged the siding to a home next door.

The American Red Cross is helping the two people displaced by the fire.

The Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
