PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A Thomas Nelson Community College student says she never received a $4,000 check her college had mailed her and that’s because police say the check was cashed by someone else in Portsmouth.
On Oct. 15, the college mailed the student a check worth over $4,000 to her home in Portsmouth. Police say the victim never received the check and moved to another city.
After a couple of weeks, the student contacted the college and the college informed the victim someone cashed her check at a Portsmouth Walmart on Oct. 21.
Detectives found surveillance footage of the suspect that shows him at the Walmart cashing the check. If you have any information about this crime, please call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP℠.
