One killed in Hampton vehicle crash

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Hampton police confirm a fatal vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon.

Minutes before 4:30 p.m., a single-vehicle crash occurred in the first block of Shelton Road near the intersection with Oneda Drive, according to Hampton Police Division spokeswoman Corporal Mary Shackelford.

At the scene, officers found a single occupant dead inside a 1999 Dodge minivan. His identity has not, yet been released.

Investigators believe the vehicle was traveling west on Shelton Road when it left the roadway and hit a tree in the front yard of a residence.

Shelton Road has been closed to traffic between Oneda Drive and Mallory Street, due to the fatality and resulting investigation.
