HARRISONBURG, Va. (WAVY) – Junior guard Jeff Short, the leading scorer in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, scored a career-high 30 points and led Norfolk State to 74-71 overtime road win at James Madison on Monday Night.
It’s the first time the Spartans (9-5, 2-0) have ever beaten the Dukes (7-5).
Jemel Fuentes (6 points, 7 rebounds) scored the go-ahead bucket on a drive to the hoop with :27 seconds left to play, and made just one of two free throws with :10 seconds left to give NSU a 74-71 lead.
JMU’s Andre Nation missed a 3-point jumper for the tie as time expired and the Spartans were able to celebrate the win.
The’ve now won seven of their last nine games and head to Baylor for the second of a six-game road trip on Dec. 30.
