FRANKLIN, Va. (WAVY) — The Franklin man convicted of raping three women last year will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
In Southampton County Circuit Court Thursday, 27-year-old Tremaine Porter received four life prison sentences, plus 113 years. He was previously found guilty of 13 felonies related to three separate incidents, according to Southampton County Commonwealth’s Attorney Eric Cooke.
Porter was convicted of raping a 55-year-old woman on January 1, 2013 as she was walking home from church. Prosecutors said he raped her behind a privacy fence at gunpoint. When she got free, the victim ran to a neighbor’s home for help, carrying nothing but her Bible.
The Commonwealth also proved Porter raped two women on July 24, 2013 — a juvenile known to him and a woman whose home Porter broke into. The second victim was assaulted to the point of physical injury, and had to be treated at a local hospital.
“The Franklin police did an excellent job investigating these violent crimes. The community can rest a little easier knowing that this rapist will not be on the streets again,” Cooke said in a press release.
The list of charges Porter was convicted of are as follows: three counts of rape, three counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony, three counts of sodomy, grand larceny, burglary, abduction with intent to defile, object sexual penetration, and probation violations for burglary and domestic assault.
