VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – The search for a dangerous suspect in Virginia Beach is on and police could use your help.
The person shot a security guard at the Aqua Lounge on Virginia Beach Boulevard in November. That security guard is still in the hospital.
“I may deal with for the rest of my life,” he told 10 On Your Side over the phone.
The guard asked WAVY.com to not reveal his identity or his family’s because the suspect is still on the loose. The club he was in was just closing around 2 a.m. when shots rang out.
“I heard gun shots,” he added. “I see sparks and flashes pop off the ground from bullets that were ricocheting off the ground.”
He said he believes the bullets were being shot from someone who had just gotten kicked out of the club. At the time he was outside on the sidewalk. He had nowhere to hide.
“I tried to turn and run for cover,” he said. “I didn’t feel the bullet when it went through my arm, but I felt it when it hit my side.”
“By the time that I got there they had already had him up in an ambulance,” said the man’s mother. “They had him in surgery for maybe six or seven hours and that’s when they told me it was the spinal cord.”
He said he has no feeling in his lower half and cannot walk. He uses a wheelchair to get from place to place.
Virginia Beach police say they’ve looked at surveillance video from the club, but there are no images of the suspect.
“He is still kind of mad and frustrated,” said the mother about her son. “He is only 22. He has a wife, a baby and one on the way.”
“It’s hell,” the guard added. “I’m not even going to lie.”
And what hurts even more is knowing that the person who left him paralyzed is still out there and somebody knows something.
Police tell WAVY.com they do not have a good description of the suspect, but they say the get-away car is a newer model silver Dodge Charger with Maryland tags.
