NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Christmas came early for a Navy family in Norfolk Thursday.
A dad, sent to Japan almost two years ago, came home to surprise his sons at school. 10 On Your Side was at Larrymore Elementary School to witness the happy reunion.
Chief warrant officer Kevin Newton has only seen his sons in pictures for the better part of 24 months. He surprised his sons Hunter, 5, and Connor, 7, in their classrooms.
It took a minute for it to sink in, but both smiled big and hugged Daddy tight.
Connor did not cry as his mom, Nicole, had predicted, but she shed a few tears.
“It’s just been awesome I can’t describe it,” she told WAVY.com “It’s too hard to describe, but I’m so happy to have my husband home – best Christmas ever.”
The Newton’s have two more boys, ages 3 and 16 months. The family stayed in the states when Kevin was sent overseas because his wife was two months pregnant.
That baby is now 16 months old and has only seen his Dad for a total of 20 days his whole life.
